At the beginning of each school session we host a meeting for all Caritas coordinators. To find out the date of the next coordinators meeting and to book a place, please contact SCES.
During the coordinators meeting we cover issues relating to:
- enrolling for the award
- timelines and assessment support
- helping students to reflect on the impact of their Caritas experience
- enrolling pupils with in parish activities
- preparing students to ensure that their evidence is organised and well-structured.
The PowerPoint which was used to cover these points is attached below
Enrolment in Parish activities
In line with previous discussions about the challenges in ensuring that candidates are “signed up for” appropriate parish activities, co-ordinators are reminded that each parish priest must “sign off” on the parish activities which have been negotiated by each pupil. An individual pro forma or a parish list pro forma (see attachments below) should be completed to demonstrate that the parish priest has agreed to the parish activities of individual pupils.
Schools have been asked to submit full enrolment details for their cohorts asap. Journals are distributed at the coordinators meeting, but can also be sent to schools. Following receipt of enrolment details, SCES will invoice schools for the first part of the enrolment fee, with the second part being sought following receipt of submissions for assessment.
The Caritas award has used a combination of internal assessment by the school, for parish log sheets, school log sheets and journals and external assessment by a board of assessors. From session 2017/18 the award will trial a process of internal assessment by the school for all evidence, and external verification on a sample of pupils.
In order to ensure that all results are with schools by the 30th April the final date for submission of the names of pupils who have successfully achieved the award is the 28th February each year.
Please note that the Excel sheet to submit the names of pupils can be downloaded from the sidebar.
From the Attachments sidebar you can download parish enrolment forms, logsheets, assessment sheets etc.
