Scotland’s schools and parishes are celebrating the purposes, the successes and the achievements of Catholic education from 7th to 13th February 2010. The theme of this year’s celebrations is: “Shining the Light of Christ” – a reminder that we are called to shine out the light of truth and love through our words and our actions.
SCES provides support materials for schools and parishes to assist them in their own plans to draw attention to the added value which Catholic schools bring across Scotland. Promotional events, liturgical celebrations, particular classroom lessons and school activities will be encouraged in schools and parishes. The materials, which were developed by a group of teachers working under the leadership of Mr Gerry McCormick, include:
- teaching resources for Primary classes
- teaching resources for Secondary classes
- video presentations and prayers for school/class assemblies
- school newsletters
- parish resources, including posters, newsletters and a famly resource.
In the course of the week Michael McGrath, Director of SCES, is introducing a new school resource to hundreds of teachers in Catholic schools in Fife, Tayside, Stirling and the Borders.
