SCIAF has launched an emergency appeal to help people in Haiti following a massive earthquake. The quake – the largest to hit the country in over 200 years – has completely destroyed large parts of the capital Port-au-Prince.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes or are badly injured. Up to 3 million people have been affected by the disaster.
SCIAF’s Chief Executive Paul Chitnis said: “SCIAF has launched an emergency appeal to help us provide urgent supplies of clean water and temporary shelter to thousands of people in the disaster zone. SCIAF has worked in Haiti for over 20 years. We are speaking to our partners in the country to find out how we can best help with the rescue operation.”
