On 30 June 2014 Michael McGrath, Director of the Scottish Catholic Education Service (SCES), was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the St. Andrew’s Foundation in the University of Glasgow. The Fellowship was awarded at the end of the Graduation Mass for B.Ed students. Michael has joined Cardinal Gerhard Müller and Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick as Honorary Fellows of the St. Andrew’s Foundation.
Having taught English and Religious Education for many years, Michael served as Head Teacher of Our Lady’s High in Cumbernauld for seven years before his appointment as Director of SCES in 2003. Michael is a key player in Catholic education not just in Scotland but worldwide. Under Michael’s leadership, SCES has overseen the production of a new Religious Education syllabus (This is Our Faith) and pioneered the now established Caritas Award for pupils in 6th year at Catholic schools in Scotland.
Michael was instrumental in the set-up phase of the Foundation and members of the Foundation are all indebted to his wisdom and insights at that important time. We look forward to his continued contribution to the life of the St. Andrew’s Foundation. Michael continues to chair the Board of Catholic Education, the body which oversees the University’s commitment to Catholic teacher education.
