Learning together about the Papal Visit

How can we use the Pope’s visit to the UK as a stimulus to learning?

Media coverage of the Pope’s visit to the UK from 16th to 19th September will provide countless images of the Pope visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and elsewhere.  There will be pictures of the Pope meeting the Queen, Prince Charles, UK and Scottish politicians, the Church Hierarchy and being greeted by hundreds of thousands.

With the ready availability of these pictures in schools, how might they be used to stimulate learning about the Pope, the Church in the UK, a UK State visit, pageantry and protocol, the media, Feast of St Ninian, Cardinal Newman and much more?

What plans do you have to help to prepare children and young people in your school?  How can you capture some of the experiences of young people who will greet the Pope in Edinburgh, Glasgow or elsewhere?

Post a short comment here and share your ideas and thoughts with others.
