The notion of the common good also extends to future generations. The global economic crises have made painfully obvious the detrimental effects of disregarding our common destiny, which cannot exclude those who come after us. We can no longer speak of sustainable development apart from
intergenerational solidarity.”
Pope Francis, Laudato Si’
The annual gathering for parents of children in Catholic schools will take place on
Saturday 21st September 2019 at
St. Francis Xavier’s Primary School, Merchiston Avenue, Falkirk, and will run from 9.30am – 3.00pm.
The theme for this year’s gathering is “Caretakers of God’s Creation: Laudato Si’ in School and at Home”. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Lorna Gold. Lorna is a mother, academic, climate campaigner and author of the book “Climate Generation: Awakening to Our Children’s Future”. Lorna will share her personal journey in understanding what those two words ‘climate change’ mean for her as a mother seeking to protect her children and, by extension, the world of which we are all a part. Lorna’s talk will provide a springboard for a day of learning, discussion and prayer around issues related to care of our planet, and how parents and schools can play their part in helping our families, schools and young people to be informed, faithful and active advocates for the care of our common home.
We will also be joined by speakers from SCIAF, who will share with us some of the work they are doing in parishes and schools.
As ever, families are welcome at the gathering, and there will be special workshops and activities for children on the day. Lunch will be provided.
Attendance at the event is free, but booking is essential. Registration can be done by clicking here
