Petition to change Religious Observance in schools

In another attempt by secularist groups to silence the voices of faith groups in society, the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee was asked, via a Public petition, to change the arrangements for Religious Observance in all Scotland’s schools so that young people would be required to opt in to such experiences. (Details can be found here.)  This issue has been deabted on a number of occasion in recent years.

The signs are clear that such attacks are likely to continue and that, if successful, they could have a significant impact on the work of Catholic schools.  The Catholic Church, through the Catholic Education Commission, SCES and other bodies, always responds to petitions and consultations on such issues.  To read the response which was submitted on 9th October 2014, download the document attached below.
