Fifty primary schools from across Scotland have agreed to pilot the Pope Francis FAITH Award which is being offered by the Catholic Bishops of Scotland. After a large number of schools expressed an interest in being involved in this pilot scheme, these 50 were chosen to cover every Dicoese, schools of different sizes and those in both rural and urban settings. A few parishes without Catholic schools also hope to be involved in the pilot scheme.
The FAITH Award invites young people at the Primary 6 & 7 stages to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and to see how these gifts can bear fruit in their homes, schools and parishes. It is directly connected to what young people are learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation. Award entrants will be expected to show that:
- they have used all the gifts of the Holy Spirit when showing love of God and love of others in their daily lives.
- with the support of others, they have reflected on how their actions have made an impact on their journey of faith
- they are playing their part in the life of the parish.
The Faith Award will be launched in these pilot schools just before Lent in 2014. Detailed notes on how the award scheme will operate can be downloaded using the attachment below.
