In a message delivered to all Catholic parishioners on Sunday 26 August 2012, the Scottish Bishops have placed a special emphasis on the role of the family founded on Marriage, defined as the unique life-long union of a man and a woman. On the day when Scripture reminds us that, in Marriage, “a man is joined to his wife and the two will become one body” (Ephesians 5: 31), the Church reafirms the truth and the beauty of the Sacrament of Matrimony and calls on the faithful to pray for the strengthening of Marriage within the Church and within society. Scotland’s Bishops have also announced their intention to establish a new Commission for Marriage and the Family.
