The school

St Mary’s Primary School and Nursery Class serves the village of Cleland and the surrounding local area.

This follow-through report is based on an inspection visit which was carried out in January 2011. It tells you about improvements since the original inspection in the quality of education which the schoo provides. It also comments on how the school is getting on with the main points for action.

Particular strengths of the school

  • Confident children who are enthusiastic about their learning.
  • The effective use of the nursery outdoor area to promote learning.
  • Staff teamwork to improve provision.
  • The commitment of the school management team to manage and support improvement.

What happens next?

There is clear evidence of continued improvements in the school since the original inspection. More remains to be done to improve the quality of children’s learning experiences in the nursery. As a result, HMI will carry out a second follow-through inspection within one year of the publication of this report.
