The school

St Ninian’s RC Primary School is a denominational school. It serves the Machars area of Dumfries and Galloway. The roll was 24 when the inspection was carried out in May 2011. Children’s attendance was above the national average in 2009/2010.

Particular strength of the school

  • Well-behaved, polite and friendly children who are keen to learn.

The following areas for improvement have been agreed with the school and education authority

  • Increase pace and challenge and develop opportunities for children to have more responsibility for their learning.
  • Improve attainment, particularly in writing.
  • Improve the curriculum more quickly by using Curriculum for Excellence.
  • Implement self-evaluation approaches that lead to school improvement, including by involving all staff, children and their parents
