
Michael was the first Director of SCES from August 2003 to July 2016 when he retired. Having taught English and R.E. in various Catholic schools since 1975, Michael was Head Teacher of Our Lady’s High School, Cumbernauld for 7 years before being appointed by the Bishops of Scotland to establish SCES. In June 2014 Michael was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the St. Andrew’s Foundation in the University of Glasgow’s School of Education. Prior that this. he was a Senior Honorary Teaching Fellow in the School of Education’s former Religious Education Department. He also served on the General Teaching Council of Scotland for 9 years. In September 2016 Pope Francis conferred on Michael the Knighthood of St Gregory the Great (KSG) for his service to Catholic Education and to the Church.
