Curriculum Leadership in Catholic Religious Education

Course audience
This 20 credit course explores a range of theological and educational issues related to curriculum leadership in the teaching of Catholic Religious Education. It is open to all staff in both primary and secondary schools.
Course content/aims
This course will encourage a deep and critical exploration of the theological traditions of Catholic Religious Education. It will provide participants with the knowledge and understanding necessary to assume curriculum leadership in the discipline of Catholic Religious Education. This course will enable participants to provide robust leadership in the implementation of This is Our Faith.
The course has four themes: Christology, ecclesiology, sacramental theology and Catholic social teaching. Each theme will be explored from two distinct but related angles. There will first be a theological exploration of the topic followed by a consideration of application to context.
Successful participants earn 20 Masters level credits. These credits can be used towards a PG Certificate (60 credits) or a Masters degree (180 credits).

Assessment
Assessment will consist of an assignment of 4,000 words. The topic will be negotiated with the tutor of the course.
