Fourth Level Equality and Inclusion Learning and Teaching

  • By: Barbara Coupar

This learning plan is intended to form part of a holistic learning journey for pupils which focuses on addressing discrimination and prejudiced based bullying. The learning starts in Early Level and continues through to Senior Phase

In this fourth level unit pupils are learning:

  • to know the content and context of the Equality Act 2010
  • to understand and can explain the distinction between Prejudice, Stereotyping and Discrimination
  • to know that there are groups within society who have historically suffered from discrimination, and this still happens, and  discuss the main points of this
  • to know the call of the Christian is to love others, and to act accordingly; to share my response to this
  • to communicate my opinions and values to others

This theme complements the learning and teaching outlined in ‘Called To Love’ and should be used in conjunction with the activities and resources for S3

All of these materials note that within a Catholic school the starting point for any work with young people in the area of Equality, Inclusion and Justice is rooted in the Church's vision of what it means to be in relationship with God and others.  The materials hosted on this page  should be used in conjunction with the existing RE Guidance 'This Is Our Faith' and current RSHP/HWB/RERC resources for Relationships and Moral Education – Called to Love (Secondary schools) and God’s Loving Plan (Primary schools)
