The focus for this unit is Mary in her response to God’s call to agree to become the Mother of God. It highlights her response as a crucial part in God’s Plan. It presents Mary as a woman whose depth of spirituality and complete openness to God enables her to respond positively to this call, to become the Mother of God.  Pupils will also explore  her title, “Mother of the Church”, and so come to understand the significance of this title to themselves.       As Mother of the Church, she is mother to each baptised member of the Body of Christ.   Finally, pupils will grow in their understanding of Mary as intercessor, the woman of prayer who journeys with the Church on earth, leading us always to Christ her Son.
